August 18 – Saint Helena

Saint Helena

listenDear Lord, the great emperor Constantine gave his mother, Saint Helena (c.248-c.328), the authority to promote Christianity by building churches throughout the empire and on the holy sites in Israel.  She is the patron saint of difficult marriages and divorced people because her husband divorced her for someone with better political connections.  I ask her to pray for the separated and divorced people in my life.  O Jesus, heal their wounds and teach them to receive from You the love they need when they’re lonely.  If their first marriage was invalid and they remarry, give them Spirit-filled spouses.  Saint Helena, pray for us.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga (1901-1952.)
Feast day August 18

quoteIf we don’t see Christ in the person we rub elbows with every moment, that is because our faith is tepid and our love imperfect.”

quoteI hold that each poor man, every vagrant, each beggar is Christ in person who carries his cross. And as Christ, we must love him and help him. We must treat him as a brother, as a human being, like ourselves.”
