Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

October 16

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Lord Jesus, You revealed Your Sacred Heart to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque and promised to provide comfort in our afflictions, peace in our homes, and abundant blessings in all our undertakings.  I dedicate myself and my home to Your Most Sacred Heart and I ask Saint Margaret Mary to pray for my understanding of what this means in my life.  Dear Jesus, bless my home, my family, and all our endeavors.  May we know Your mercy through a contrite heart and a repentant spirit.  May we benefit from Your charity in all our needs, especially those that help us to overcome difficulties.  Saint Margaret Mary, pray for me.  Amen.

QUOTES by Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

The sacred heart of Christ is an inexhaustible fountain and its sole desire is to pour itself out into the hearts of the humble so as to free them and prepare them to lead lives according to his good pleasure. From this divine heart three streams flow endlessly. The first is the stream of mercy for sinners; it pours into their hearts sentiments of contrition and repentance. >>

Let us have no further reserve with Him; let us abandon to Him all that we are, without anxiety about the future, not reflecting on ourselves and our incapacity. >>

Saint Teresa of Avila

October 15

Saint Teresa of AvilaDear Jesus, Saint Teresa of Avila realized with shock and sorrow that her love for You was almost nil compared to Your great love for her.  She decided to devote herself to prayer and sacrifice, and in so doing, she became a mystical contemplative.  She wrote that if we fully yield our lives, “I am convinced that He never ceases bestowing His graces until He has brought us to a very high state of prayer.”  I ask her to intercede for my purification.  O Lord, help me to let go of my will and teach me to overcome the limitations imposed by self-centeredness.  Raise me to the intimate prayer of contemplation.  Saint Teresa, pray for me.  Amen.

QUOTES by Saint Teresa of Avila

This Beloved of ours is merciful and good. Besides, he so deeply longs for our love that he keeps calling us to come closer. >>

O souls, redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ, take these things to heart; have mercy on yourselves! If you realize your pitiable condition, how can you refrain from trying to remove the darkness from your souls. >>

I had many friends to help me to fall; but as to rising again, I was so much left to myself, that I wonder now I was not always on the ground. I praise God for His mercy; for it was He only Who stretched out His hand to me. >>

All blessings come to us through our Lord. He will teach us, for in beholding His life we find that He is the best example. What more do we desire from such a good friend at our side? >>

An intelligent mind is simple and teachable; it sees its faults and allows itself to be guided. A mind that is dull and narrow never sees its faults even when shown them. It is always pleased with itself and never learns to do right. >>

In the midst of sickness the best prayer may be offered, and it is a mistake to think it can only be offered in solitude. >>

Saint Callistus I

October 14

Saint Callistus IHoly Lord, Saint Callistus I was a slave who got into serious trouble because of his violent nature.  While doing hard labor for punishment, he reformed his ways.  Once freed, he became trustworthy and honorable.  Soon he was ordained as a deacon to the pope and eventually succeeded him as the next pope.  I ask him to pray for the prison systems that we have today and for those who oversee them.  O Lord, raise up politicians who are inspired to renovate the ways we handle criminals.  Bless the programs that already exist, so that convicts become law-abiding, productive members of society.  Saint Callistus, pray for us.  Amen.

Saint Edward the Confessor

October 13

Saint Edward the ConfessorBlessed Lord, Saint Edward the Confessor was one of the most popular English kings, because he trusted in You and greatly loved his people.  By relying on You, he was able to rule wisely and maintain peace.  I ask him to pray for world leaders and for those serving in my nation’s governmental offices.  Lord, help us to elect Godly men and guide our politicians to make wise decisions inspired by the Holy Spirit.  Bless the leaders of every country and all religions and fill them with a high sense of values.  Raise up new leaders who build peace, protect life, and promote the fair and just treatment of all people.  Saint Edward, pray for us.  Amen.

Saint Edwin

October 12

Saint Edwin of NorthumbriaO Jesus Christ, Saint Edwin was a pagan king who listened to a Christian preacher publicly explain the Gospel.  He accepted salvation, renounced his worship of the gods, and commanded his high priest to destroy their altars and temples.  I ask him to pray for all those who today worship other gods and belong to pagan religions, especially those in witchcraft covens and satanism.  Dear Savior, rescue them from the strongholds of demons.  Interrupt their ceremonies by revealing Your holy presence.  Lead all these souls to Heaven, especially because they are most in need Your mercy.  Saint Edwin, pray for them.  Amen.
