Alphonsus LiguoriHoly Spirit, Saint Alphonsus Liguori was a civil and a canon lawyer, and he made it a point to always attend Mass before heading to court.  His promised that he would never waste a moment of his life, and held fast to it for over 90 years, even when his rheumatism hurt so much that he could barely move.  I ask him to pray for my use of time.  O Lord, show me how to dedicate each moment to You.  Help me to examine each activity—the work I do for employers, the ministries I do for the Church, the time I spend with my family, and my leisure time.  May it all be used to glorify You and increase my holiness.  Saint Alphonsus, pray for me.  Amen.

QUOTES by Saint Alphonsus Liguori

If we should be saved and become saints, we ought always to stand at the gates of the Divine mercy to beg and pray for, as an alms, all that we need. >>

To show mercy and grant pardon to sinners, God regards as redounding to his own glory. “And therefore shall he be exalted sparing you” (Isaiah 30. 18.). The holy Church says, that God displays his omnipotence in granting pardon and mercy to sinners. >>

When we see a sinner in tribulation in this life, we may infer that God wishes to have mercy on him in the next, and that he exchanges eternal for temporal chastisement. >>

There never was, and never will be, an offering on the part of a pure creature greater or more perfect than that which Mary made to God when, at the age of three years, She presented Herself in the temple to offer Him, … Her entire self, consecrating Herself as a perpetual victim in His honor. >>

As Mary was to be the mediatrix of peace between men and God, it was of the utmost importance that she should not herself appear as a sinner and as an enemy of God, but that she should appear in all things as a friend, and free from every stain. >>

Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were alone with Him, familiarly and with confidence and love, as to the dearest and most loving of friends. Speak to Him often of your business, your plans, your troubles, your fears. >>

God is faithful: He will not permit you to be tempted above your strength. And if of yourself you have not strength to overcome evil, ask it from God and He will give it to you. >>

No man has ever placed his trust in God and has been abandoned. He that prays with confidence obtains whatever he asks for. >>
